About HallingSpranget
HallingSpranget is a 17 km long trail from Syningen at the top of Nesfjellet down to the center of Nesbyen. The trail is designed for both hikers and bikers, with a width of approximately 1.2 meters and a maximum incline of 7 degrees (class B). Some short sections may be more demanding. The main target group is families, especially those with children aged 7 and up.
Information and emergency resources along the trail
- Main sign at the trailhead provides an overview of:
- Trail length
- Five viewpoints with rest areas and emergency equipment
- Encouragement to assess your own skill level and take your trash with you
- Viewpoints and rest areas: There are five marked viewpoints/rest stops (see map below):
- Berget
- Svingen
- Vidsynet
- Bjødnaskaret
- Beiakanten
Each rest area includes:
- Two seating areas
- Information board with “You are here” map, distance from the top, and elevation
- Location of rescue stretcher with wheels and emergency backpack
- Emergency equipment: The rescue stretchers are equipped with:
- First aid kit
- Blankets
- Bubble wrap
- Warning triangle
Access and transportation
- 4 helicopter landing zones are marked on the map below with GPS coordinates.
- Road and ATV access:
- From Rukkedalsvegen near Vabrua: 1.5 km access road connects to the trail 4.5 km from the bottom
- Then 2 km of forest road continues further into the terrain
- The entire trail is accessible with a 4-wheel ATV
Operations and follow-up
- A dedicated emergency map is attached to this plan (see map below).
- Incident logging is continuously maintained by the rescue service and HallingSpranget as a basis for improvements.
- Traffic counters register the number of hikers and bikers.
- Monitoring and maintenance: HallingSpranget is responsible for regular inspections, restocking first aid supplies, and trail maintenance.
